Need a fix for XP's Auto-hide Task-bar?

OK, I was a tech for several years and have forgotten more than I can remember, so please no answers like 'rt click start button %26gt; properties %26gt;...' already done... already set prog's so theuy should 'duck down' behind taskbar etc...

So here's the problem: task-bar hides but when cursor is moved to bottom of page to unhide/reveal it doesn't work... the only thing I can do is use the 'MicrOCrap' key to unhide it... This happens with all of my usual programs so I figure I must have a registry key that has been dropped or has been altered... no virus to date since this machine was built (Avast is the greatest!)... Any ideaz, this one is stumping me and I know it must be really simply stupid...

Some days I wish I had swam upstream 20 yrs ago and followed the apple :- /

I think I have the same problem. None of these answers worked for you huh?

Need a fix for XP's Auto-hide Task-bar?software

Taskbar Activate, I'll look into it. I had to keep setting that auto-hide over and over again, and eventually it stuck, but only for like 3/4 reboots and then I'd have to do it again. Thanx for the tip! If I find a better answer, I'll try and let you know. Report It

What is WRONG with my computer & desktop?? Is it a virus??!?

Okay, so I am assuming I have a virus. For some reason, I cannot put anything on my desktop besides a plain color. I cannot right click and put a picture on the desktop, nor can I go to display and change the settings. It won't even let me click on the desktop pic's when I go to Display. I downloaded Avast! a while ago and it did not help.. I think it just made it worse. I am running AVG on my computer now, but it's almost done and no threats are coming up. What do you think can be wrong with it? Is it a virus or did I just change a setting on my computer somehow? Someone please help me, it is driving me nuts, and if its a virus I want to try to get rid of it ASAP. Any suggestions????

Sounds like your desktop has been hijacked by a virus. I too had this happen. My suggestion is to have hard drive wiped and then reinstall the windows again. This worked perfect for me.

What is WRONG with my computer %26 desktop?? Is it a virus??!?spyware removal

it is a virus!! obvious.Try MCafee or norton antivirus
Yes your desktop has been hijacked as one the people mentioned before. But virus dont have that capability. Virus only disrupt and replicate. Thats it!.I think its always interesting that people recommend anti-virus software for spyware. The is not the proper way to approach spyware. Anti-virus and spyware are separate technologies. Yes, anti-virus programs can remove some spyware if the signatures have been added to the data base. This is a backward and late process. Spyware is the biggest threat to your PC. So, you need software that is updated daily. Do a scan with a reputable anti-spyware product, like spysweeper. a if it pulls up a spyware with a few names. Thats your problem. Hope this helps :)

yup, your desktop has been hijacked...use control panel to access the display properties and turn off active desktop or cutomize your desktop not to display any webpage on your desktop...then perform a scan using spyware removal sw....

hope this helps

Why won't my browser connect?

Every time I try to open my internet browser, it won't connect to any site. It says Firefox is unable to connect to whatever site. Its weird because when I restart my computer it works for like 5 minutes then it will give the error page suddenly. Its not just firefox either, IE and Opera also don't work. I know its not the internet connection itself because yahoo messenger and various other applications work with the internet. Also I ran a full boot avast anti-virus, it found multiple trojans and stuff, I deleted them and the problem still persists.

Why won't my browser connect?norton internet security

Try scanning your pc for viruses in safe mode (reboot %26 press f8 repeatedly till it gives you the boot option screen). Also make sure to look up the viruses you found to make sure that you remove all traces of them. Some viruses/trojans leave traces of themselves behind %26 your virus protection doesn't remove all of the infection. Virus protection sites usually give a detailed profile of the virus %26 and it's characteristics and how to completely remove all traces.

You also might want to check your firewall, it might be blocking the http port because the nasties are trying to phone home.

Why won't my browser connect?spyware remove

Try to ping the website from the dos prompt

Ex : ping yahoo.com

If you get the reply problem with your browser otherwise reinstall your windows..........
Try going into ''Internet options'' in the control panel and clearing your history, temporary files(check box for offline) and cookies.Click ''OK'' to close the window.Try again.
Try reinstall your browser or download the virus removal tools from other PC/Laptop to clean again. Some virus or worm will actually alter your windows registry files or other library files. By deleting the virus or quarantine it will not help sometime.

  • buid my first home
  • make pores smaller
  • Today I opened an email from classmates.com and got a Trojan. My defenses alerted me to it, it flash

twice and I have not seen it since. I updated and ran Avast, AdAware Personal, Spybot, Superantispyware, and CCleaner. They all came up empty.

Has the trojan been eliminated or is it hiding somewhere? If it is hiding what else can I do to find it?

Also Microsoft firewall and a hardware firewall in a router are in place.

If everything signals all-clear and the defenses spotted it in the first place, I'd breathe a tentative sigh of relief.

Installing two or more virus protections on my PC?

What are the advantages/disadvantages, if there are any.

I have avg, avast and mcafee installed on my PC and they are all free editions.

Installing two or more virus protections on my PC?nortonantivirus

there's a lot of conflict if you have two or more anti-virus softwares in your pc and in most cases they contradict rather than give you better protection. they also slows down your computer a lot since they are all programmed to run at startup. instead of three, just have an updated one.

Installing two or more virus protections on my PC?spyware

You don't ever want to install two antivirus programs. You will have serious conflict with your system. You can install three or four antispyware without conflict as one will find what the others miss. Just have the resources for the software.

    Minddoctor, France
Any virus protections you have in your PC are for free TEMPORARY. You will have to choose one day to buy one.You do not need two anti-virus a good one is enough. Let me tell you that all free editions are not fully protected your PC. They are LIMITED editions. Please,if you think my answer helps you somehow, do not forget to rate it. As Microsoft Office, the anti-virus program allows you between 60 to 90 days of free trial. That is.
will run into conflicts and typically they will battle for resources and cause problems amongst each other. AVG and AVast work well with free editions and mcafee is a good pay for solution. Use 1 solution and preferrably one with firewall included as well
The use of 2 or more anti-virus programs at the same time can cause major conflicts. The 2 scanning engines will fight each other to scan every file that you read, write or execute which can cause a major computer slowdown. For the same reason, using 2 A-Vs can cause you to have less protection from the various malware, not more.

(Using an anti-spyware and a firewall with an anti-virus is good, however and is recommended)

You might consider choosing just one A-V and removing any others. (Keep Avast...hint, hint)
more than one anti virus on your pc is asking for trouble...they're not compatible with each other and will cause conflicts eventually...but you can have more than one anti spyware program installed

    Google out of service?

Yesterday I was working and using Google.com all the time. Around 11pm (CT) I try Google for a new search and I couldn't believe that the server was out of service. however, I am still cannot access the Google web site.

    Someone is having this problem?

This started yesterday while I was setting up my account at Google AdWords.

I am not getting re-direct for another www or even having pop up screen on my desktop. It's just keep loading loading loading and loading ...

Also, I have installed PC Tools Firewall and !Avast Anti-virus

    Google out of service?noton

I dont suppose its an issue with any of the updates you did and NOR the issue with google. Its sometimes the way your browser behaves when you have a disconnectivity of network for a brief moment OR if there is an issue with the cache OR if there were some JRE/Java downloads that happened.

Clear your cache with all the browsers closed. Try again.. It works !!

    Google out of service?stinger

maybe it wasnt really google. maybe it was a spam site posing as google.
9:28 central time google workes for me gmail and google maps
Maybe you just have to update your computer.
wtf? im using google right now

    your computer just sucks

Im having trouble with downloading things can u help me plz??

i cant download programes such as internet explorer 7, msn messenger or avast!we i try to download it a box shows up saying '' your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'' i have put all the settins back to default so what security settings?? how do i change it??

Im having trouble with downloading things can u help me plz??panda

Default settings are not necessarily low enough for downloading to take place. You need to click Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Security and make sure the sliders are at the bottom and all cookies are accepted. You can restore it back to how it was once you have downloaded your files.

Im having trouble with downloading things can u help me plz??suzuki

Well it depends what you are using. You should go to your start menu go and find the security programme you have then go on the setting and turn them of or if you are still stuck go on the Microsoft web and ask them! i hope i helped!
go to internet options %26gt; programs...reset web settings...

    or

go to advanced tab, select restore defaults.. apply

    it should be fine.
try re-booting your pc and then check your security settings again
Sounds like the firewall is blocking them...find your firewall look under settings then add the sites you want to connect with to the allowed list.
    haha tube to you too!
