No internet connection, ethernet not recieving ip address at all?

I have my friends comuter as it wont get an internet connection at his place or mine.

He thinks he got a worm off of MSN which messed up his pcguard software and blocked his internet connection.

When i enter ipconfig in the comand line window i get nothing.

I have tried running avast and it has found no viruses or worms etc.

I have disabled and enabled the lan connection. Reinstalled the the ethernet driver.

I have uninstalled msn messenger.

Ive run registry and other cleaners!

Im out of ideas someone please help!

have you done the ipconfig /release all %26 ipconfig /renew all

do it on his pc on his network

and see about removal if he has the worm here:

you can also burn UCD and run what you can on boot up

if all fails

i would do a system restore

Try installing the NIC in a different PCI slot.
